Minji
One and a half year later
Jimin and I walk out of the restaurant, having finished our second anniversary dinner. We walk hand in hand together as we go to the park where we had gone on our first date. I look at the swans and smile.
‘Do you remember when we fed the swans on our first date?’ I ask as Jimin hugs me from behind while he rests his head on the crook between my neck and shoulder.
‘As if I could ever forget. So many things have changed since then huh?’ He asks and I nod. ‘I mean one of the biggest changes was when Yun found out she’s pregnant.’ He says chuckling.
‘Yeah tell me about it.’ I reply with a smile as I recall how a couple of weeks ago, Yun and I were in the living room together.
The boys were going to be away for two weeks so were snuggled together watching a movie. She had turned suddenly to me and blurted out she was pregnant. She started crying because she was scared of how Yoongi would react. I mean the boys are at the peak of their career. We waited for the two weeks and then she had told him. Yoongi had started crying the moment she told him and he kept on hugging her and never letting go.
‘I’m so excited to meet the little boy or girl. Yun was so scared at first but Yoongi-Oppa has been amazing.’ I say.
‘Yeah I’ve never seen him so soft.’ He says smiling. ‘I can’t wait till we have our own little family someday.’ He says, squeezing me tighter.
‘Me too babe.’ I say as I place my hands on his. I feel his breath against my neck. ‘Things have been going good for everyone lately – like Unnie and Hoseok-Oppa.’ I say.
‘Yeah. I still can’t believe that four months ago noona came back to the dance studio. Everyone was so happy to see her back where she belongs. Hoseok hyung couldn’t stop crying either that day.’ He says excitedly.
‘You boys are all such an emotional bunch but she deserved it. It was a long process but she worked so hard. I also got so emotional when she won the award for the best choreography two weeks ago.’ I say.
‘Yeah we all were so proud of her just like we were proud of you when you graduated last November. Seeing you in that gown and throwing that hat – I couldn’t be prouder. All your hard work has paid off.’ He says and I nod.
‘After my first year, second year was plain sailing. I could focus on school so it was pretty easy. Mentioning school, did you know that Mark, Seob and Usagi joined forced to start a project for children with special learning needs? They called it the Rei-Project. I was so moved by it.’ I say.
‘Wow that’s incredible and it’s a beautiful way to honour Rei. I was really glad when her family was helped. Mentioning them, are Usagi and Seob still together?’ He asks and I nod. ‘What about Byung?’ He asks.
‘Byung sent me a letter recently. I still can’t believe he and his father are doing voluntary work in South Africa. I mean Byung yes, but Mr. Oh – I would have never guessed.’ I say with a chuckle and Jimin nods.
After what happened with Lee, Oh was arrested. He spent fifteen months in prison but was given probation due to all his help on the case. Since he never killed anyone and he had worked with the cops and admitted to his charges, his sentence was reduced. I used to visit him, something which he always seemed to appreciate.
‘Some people do change you know just like we changed. I mean who would have told us we’d have an extra job on the side, hm?’ He asks chuckling and I smile. He’s right – nobody would have expected us to work for the NIS besides our official jobs. Besides me being a teacher and Jimin being an idol, we also work for the NIS.
We’re not fully-fledged agents but we sometimes do errands. Sometimes we collect information, sometimes we pass it along, acting as messengers. Still, it always feels so exciting to be doing it. When the director had come to talk to me, Jimin had overheard the whole conversation. We both decided that although we had been scared and nervous, we both felt that rush. The only way I was going to accept though was if we could do it together. The Director wasn’t completely convinced but he did change his mind and accepted.
The only people who know are the Director, my parents and Jungkook. We never told the others so they won’t worry. It’s our family secret. We were given training and then we went on our first ‘mission’ a few months later. It was observing someone and then reporting it.
‘Ahh I still can’t believe it sometimes. You changed my life completely Minji.’ He says as he turns me around. I smile and look at him.
‘Like you changed mine.’ I reply. I see his eyes twinkling and I smile even more. He lowers down and crashes his lips against mine. We kiss, our lips moving in sync – two missing pieces that had come together in harmony. My life had been a scattering of pieces but two years ago, the pieces started coming together – finding my twin, finding love, healing from the loss of Minho and finding myself.
'Then let me keep changing it Minji.' He says as he pulls away from me. I look at him confused as he suddenly goes on one knee. He pulls out a small box and opens it to reveal a beautiful looking ring. ‘You are my whole life Minji and I cannot imagine my life without you. Two years ago, you made me the happiest man on the planet when you accepted to be my girlfriend. Will you make me the happiest man in the universe? Will you marry me?’ He asks. I keep staring at him for a moment before I start nodding.
‘Yes, yes Jimin, a thousand times yes.’ I say as I feel happy tears spilling. I let him put the ring on my finger and I jump on him as I kiss him. I feel him laugh into the kiss as he picks me up and twirls me around, my feet in the air. ‘How did you even manage to keep it a secret from me? I usually always manage to find out when you’re going to surprise me.’ I say as he puts me down.
‘I’ve gotten better at it.’ He says with a wink. I smile as I place my hand out in front of me and admire the beautiful ring. ‘Do you like it?’ He asks.
‘I love it. It’s perfect.’ I say, still smiling like an * as I hug him once more. We both stop when we hear footsteps approaching. We turn around to see Eomma, Appa, Jungkook and the Director approaching. I look at Jimin who shrugs.
‘Don’t look at me. This isn’t part of the surprise.’ He says. I look at them and I see Eomma and Appa smiling.
‘Hyung! You finally asked!’ Jungkook exclaims as he sees the ring on my finger. I nod, still smiling. Jungkook is quick to come and embrace me. ‘I can’t believe it. My sister is getting married and I haven’t even found a girlfriend yet.’ He says, making me giggle.
‘You will Kooks.’ I say. I look at Eomma who looks like she is about to get emotional.
‘I’m so proud of the woman you have become sweetie.’ She says and I smile at her. I look over to the Director curiously, wondering as to why my family is with him, especially Kooks. As far as I know they have never really met....
‘I know that look Minji and you’re right to be curious but first let me start by congratulating you on your engagement.’ The Director begins. I smile and nod. ‘Now, to business. We have a mission for you in Vienna.’ He says.
Jimin and I look at each other and then at Jungkook who is chuckling with his arms across his chest. ‘What gremlin? Did you think you’ll be the only agent?’ He asks as I stare at him. ‘I’ve been training in secret and one of the tasks was to make sure you didn’t find out until I tell you. To be honest, you almost caught me three times.’ He says laughing as he rubs the back of his neck. I look at him, my eyes going wide with surprise.
‘I don’t understand. Why are you doing this?’ I ask as I look at him. He shrugs and then puts his hand on my shoulder.
‘Let’s say I wanted to be part of the family business. This is something I get to do with my amazing sister and my brother-in-law.’ He says and I smile.
‘Aish Kooks! This is amazing.’ I exclaim as I side hug him. He chuckles as he goes to ruffle my hair while I swat his hands away.
‘Just remember Jungkook, on the field, she is your superior.’ The Director says and I can’t help but giggle while Jungkook nods while rolling his eyes. I like the idea of bossing Jungkook around. ‘Anyways, for this one it’s going to be a whole family trip. You’ll be going to Vienna to the Moonlight Masquerade Ball. You will be acquiring an item from there.’ The Director says smiling.
‘When are we leaving Director?’ Jimin asks excitedly. The Director smiles as he hands us the passports and flight ticket.
‘Tomorrow morning. You can tell the others that it’s a family trip to celebrate the engagement.’ Appa replies and I can’t help but smile. ‘Aish my little baby girl is really all grown up huh?’ He says as he sighs loudly.
‘Don’t kid yourself yeobo. You’re not getting any younger either.’ Eomma says, making all of us laugh loudly.
I look at my wonderful family – my parents, my brother and my fiancé and smile. Every piece that was missing has come together to form a beautiful puzzle which is my life. Jimin sees me looking and he smiles as he reaches for my hand.
‘Let’s go save the world.’ He jokes as I nod and smile.
